Open Maps for Europe Launch

Wednesday, 20 October 2021 | 1045-1100 hrs

Open Maps for Europe is a new online service that provides free to use maps from more than 40 European countries. The datasets are created using official map, geospatial and land information from official, national sources.

The project, which is co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility of the European Union, is coordinated by EuroGeographics, the voice of European National Mapping, Cadastral and Land Registration Authorities, in partnership with the National Geographic Institute (NGI) Belgium.

Users can access the open data, including topographic data, a digital elevation model, imagery, and a regional gazetteer, created by members of the not-for-profit membership association, through an online interface. Open Maps for Europe will continue to be developed throughout the project, which runs until 31 December 2022.
